Jopiro, Nkhata-Bay, Malawi

“People in the village were extremely happy to have a pump for the first time in the village. They used to get water from a river which all waste flows in during rainy season and others use bushes to answer calls of nature. When rain comes all this waste flows into the river. Roads are bad to reach this village and people find more problems when they want to sell their produce. Also, they walk long distances to go to hospitals when they get sick. The maize mill is also a long distance.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
