International Day of Friendship 2019
Today is International Day of Friendship, celebrated all around the world by coming together and promoting the shared spirit of human solidarity in the form of friendship. As we continue to face many global challenges, like poverty, inequality and violence, the role of friendship becomes even more important in order to maintain peace, security and social harmony around the world. By building strong friendships, we are able to develop strong ties of trust which allow us to weave strong safety nets protecting entire communities and generate a passion in working towards a better world where we are all united for the greater good.
Its first celebration was in 2011, where the UN general assembly began to recognize that the friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and begin to build the foundations of a safer happier world. The International Day of Friendship is an initiative that works alongside the ‘Culture of Peace’s’ set of values, attitudes and behaviours that reject violence and endeavour to prevent conflicts from happening. Today is also based on the recognition of the relevance and importance of friendship as a valuable sentiment to the lives of human beings around the world.
At Drop4drop we’re celebrating International Day of Friendship by working on our projects across India and Africa. Recently we’ve been working in the Mpigi District in Uganda, where 290 people who were without water now have a safe, and sustainable water source which will remain for many years to come thanks to the work of drop4drop. We aim to deliver clean water to entire communities, by installing wells and teaching them how to maintain them so they last. Access to clean water transforms lives, creates opportunities and lays the foundations to a brighter future, which is why this is so important to us. Celebrate International Day of Friendship with us and consider donating to a project, funding a dedicated well or hosting a fundraiser.
