World Science Day for Peace and Development 2019
Today is World Science Day for Peace and Development! November 10th highlights the important role of science in society and the need to engage with the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues and how this influences peace and development around the world. It also aims to ensure that people are informed of new developments in science to broaden collective understandings of the fragility of our planet how we can all make changes in our communities to be more sustainable.
Water is closely linked to science, peace and development. It’s a key component in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals; it helps to drive economic growth, support healthy ecosystems, aids food cultivation and energy production and ensures access to sanitation. It would not be possible to achieve the SDG’s without collective action to strive towards access to clean water and sanitation for all!
Some of the challenges as a result of the water crisis include:
– Gaps in access to a safe water supply and adequate sanitation causing strain and conflict in communities
– Inability to avoid water-borne diseases like cholera caused by ingesting contaminated water
– Climate Change transforming the water cycle causing more frequent floods and droughts
Did you know? There are still 790 million people around the world who do not have access to clean water. On top of this, there are 2 billion people who lack adequate sanitation. At drop4drop, we work hard to fund as many clean water projects as we can, as we believe in providing an accountable, effective and efficient provision of clean water in the countries that need it most. Currently, drop4drop’s work is focused in India, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique and South Sudan, but drop4drop are always working to expand our areas of work and reach as many people in need as possible.
A donation of as little as £3 can provide clean water for someone who is currently living without!
