Uttar Nararthalli, West Bengal

‘I am Hapret Rava, wife of Uday Rava. I live at Uttar Nararthali forest boundary, Lalchandpur. When the community use dug-well water for drink, we face different kinds of stomach troubles. In the rainy season we cannot use dug-well water because unclean water and cow dung enters into the dug-well from the outside. Which is not safe for health. We then boil the water and use drinking purpose. Safe drinking water is a very big crisis in that remote and sick areas. Otherwise they have no another source to collect pure drinking water from outside as drinking purpose. By using regularly unsafe water causes dysentery, diarrhoea and other water borne disease and skin related problem etc.We are now using this tube-well water. And other people also coming from 2 km distance to take this tube-well water. It provides clean water and is good for our health. Moreover this tube well water will be helpful for all community peoples and our coming generation.Lastly I have a special thanks for installation of this well.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
