Panroor Village, Warap, South Sudan

“My name is Samuel Chan Bak. I am 39 years old and married to one wife with five children. I live in Panroor village of Toch West Payam at Gogrial East County in Warrap State. I am a farmer who grows various crops and keeps livestock with my wife and children as a daily activity for our living. I was recently nominated as Head of the water committee in Panroor well. I led a committee for two months trying to mobilize the fund for the spare parts. It was detected earlier that the handle for the head assembly was eroding since it had involved serious & unstoppable friction. However, the borehole wore out its handle before we made a total contribution. I pressured the community to raise the balance in one day when my committee received labor, head assembly, and Gi-pipe fees. I immediately called the Panachier team of mechanics trained by WESI to provide clean drinking water. I went to them, but their bicycles had punctured tires with no means of transport to carry their tools to Panroor. I, therefore, hired the motorcycles to take the mechanics and tools to the site. They repaired the borehole by installing Gi-pipe and head assembly, which provided the well with its usual clean water in abundance.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
