Missira Village, Jarra West District, The Gambia

Mrs. Isatou Sallah, a Community Member, said this hand pump has extremely tremendous benefits to her and the entire community. This water source is where they depend on for drinking, cooking, laundry, bathing especially for their children before they go to school they can have a bath and be comfortable and not smelling while in class. This water source is also the place where the school draws water for kids to drink at school and also to water their school vegetable garden. The importance of this water source is extremely tremendous. She also said the past years have been hard for them due to the breakdown of the water source. “But thanks to this project we are now happy the water source is up in a good quality standard. I am a citizen of Missira and I want to say thank you Drop4Drop and TOMO.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
