Matchinga, Mzimba, Malawi

The Matchinga community relied on collecting water from unprotected areas where they shared the same water with animals. The community really support the tree planting programme because many places have no trees.DROP4DROP’s mission in Malawi is not only to provide local communities with specialised water wells and pumps that suit their situation but to give them the tools and knowledge they need to maintain and use the equipment for themselves.

Malawi’s economy predominately relies on agriculture, with the trade of agricultural goods being the only source of income for many households across all regions of the country. Not only do the wells we install provide a drinking source for the entire community, but they also benefit local agricultural projects, allowing for a continued supply of produce throughout the dry season.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
