Kawango A 3 Village, Mpigi District, Uganda

‘Samuel considers it a miracle that he no longer has to walk long in search of water. He is overjoyed as he narrates how this water source has enabled their community in Kawango village to access safe and clean water. “Before this water source was constructed in this village, life was very difficult, especially for mothers and children. The nearest water collection point was down this hill, some 7km away,” the 60-year-old said.“We would wake up early in the morning and endure the long queue at the water point in order to get water for drinking and cooking,” he stated, adding that sometimes they would buy a jerrycan at 500 ugandan shillings (about 50 US cents) per 20-liter jerrycan. The situation has improved and the quality of life ,thanks to Brit awards 2022 and Drop4drop for providing us with a clean source of water.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
