Malawi is one of Africa’s most densely populated and least developed countries. Most people live in rural areas where water is scarce; as a result, many women and children spend hours of their day walking to collect water. Over 80% of the population is employed in agriculture, and the long-lasting effects of recent droughts are particularly pervasive. Rural communities particularly struggle to generate stable income, as the effects of challenging landscapes are far less forgiving than in urban areas. DROP4DROP has begun working across Malawi, with a focus on implementing community led water teams to ensure efficiency and longevity of every clean water project.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
