Kayebe-Kyoma, Mpigi District, Uganda

The village chairman is Mr Mutebe Robert, 42 years old. He explained that the borehole has been a problem to them since it was first installed in 2014 and it finally broke down completely 4 months ago. The nearest natural source, which is unprotected and heavily contaminated, is approx 1.5 kms away and the nearest safe source is a borehole in the neighbouring village, and is approx 1 km away, but it is over-congested and this leads to fights and delays when collecting water. Repairing Kayebe’s own borehole to full restoration gives the community back its independence and combats the reliance on contaminated water sources.
