Jumansarr Ba Village, Upper Badibu District, The Gambia

This is a Mandinka tribe community located about 3 kilometers South of Illiasa through the Trans-Gambia North Bank Road. It has a population of about 900 people. It is a traditionally subsistence farming community growing Rice and groundnut.  Yearly Pumpkin farming remains the source of cash crop for the community mainly supplying Senegalese villages along the border. The community has a persistent water crisis leading to some community members using open wells causing sickness especially among children under 5 years.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
