Women and school going girls expressed delight to the availability of water, since they bear the brunt of water collection. Now we can wash ourselves and our little sisters clean said Mariama.”

“As part of efforts to fight covid-19 especially in vulnerable communities, a hand washing station with soap and other detergents was also installed in the village, to enable people practice hand washing especially before using the hand pump. A concrete water trough was also made, in order for domestic animals like goat, sheep and other livestock can drink from, to avoid water wastage. Training session on water sanitation and hygiene will be conducted for the community to better manage the water source.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
