Buniadou Village, Foni Bintang Karanai District, The Gambia

“Buniadou village is located on the outskirts of Sibanor along the Trans-Gambia South Bank Road. It is a Fula tribe community who migrated from the East of the country in search of pasture and better life. The community is a subsistence farming community growing groundnut, millet and rearing of animals notably cow for sustenance. The community has only one water source which has been broken for a long time and they currently depending on Sibanor and other open wells for drinking. This water crisis has led to illness among the community members as some of them consume contaminated open well waters.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
