Batameyo Tembo, Mzimba

This village has a lot of problems with water being the major one. Now they are glad that for the first time they have a pump in this area. The problems that resulted from not having a reliable water source are now a thing of the past. They have pre-schools in the village but they lack work-shops and training. They are ready to plant trees in the village if seeds are provided. The lack of access to clean drinking water is a prominent issue facing the people of Malawi. With a dense population of close to 20 million people, half are reported to live below the poverty line with a quartering experiencing extreme poverty. The task of having to walk long distances for poor quality water is the reality faced by millions of people throughout the country. The journey, often carried out by young children, results in them failing to attend school and not receive the education they require. This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
