Akachor Village, Warrap State, South Sudan

“I am a 19-year-old female from Akachor village of Tonj North County in Warrap State. I am delighted to see WESI Team repairing this well of Akachor. Before the WESI team came to our side, we had only one well technician who rarely responds to repair wells here in our vast area. It takes time and a lot of justifications to convince him to come and repair the well. Still, once he accepts to repair a well, he demands a bullock or 40,000 SSP, equivalent to 100 USD, as a repair fee. Furthermore, he had only tools for repair but didn’t have spare parts for changing the worn-out parts of the wells. We miserably suffered in his hand over the years without quick access to clean drinking water. Fortunately, we are now blessed with new good technicians from WESI Organization who fairly charge us 12,000 SSP, equivalent to 30 USD as a repair fee, apart from the exchange of spare parts with affordable fees. This is excellent support from WESI well technicians. We shall cooperate with them to sustain the provision of clean drinking water.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
