Mission 2, Yei River State, South Sudan
Kindly Donated By Restaurant Associates Through Purchases Of Life Water
Betty Kolonga is an IDP from Lutaya to Yei town Mission area. She and her children have taken up residence in the area with extended family members. When armed conflict occurred in Betty’s community in July of 2016, she swiftly left with her children to seek security. Betty says that many others are displaced that are living in Hai Mission like her. Because of this, the area is overpopulated limiting the resources in the community. Water sources are overcrowded and often quarrelling over water occurs among many women at water points. Betty and the family she resides with would fetch their water from Immanuel Primary school. When the school opened its doors for students to begin again, it increased the difficulties for the surrounding community to access water there. She would have to spend the entire day waiting in line to fetch water, and students and teachers always went before community members. Betty is relieved to have a working well in her community and knows this will provide relief to the staff and students at Immanuel Primary School as they will have less crowding at their well.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
