Katikanyonyi Village, Mpigi District, Uganda

“The joy of having clean water in Katikanyonyi community is visible. It’s felt in every smile and heard in every laugh from students who are benefiting from the newly constructed water source with support from Drop4Drop and Last Night A DJ Saved my Life Foundation. Before this water source was constructed, the students located at Katikanyonyi village, their days were often filled with worry about the long walks to fetch water, and about missed school days due to illness caused by consuming contaminated water. Students often arrived tired and unwell at school, having walked long distances to fetch water from nearby ponds that were contaminated. Many suffered from illnesses caused by unsafe drinking water, leading to frequent absences and difficulty concentrating in class. Once clean water was available everything changed now, those concerns have been replaced with hope and happiness.  With clean and safe water readily available, students at are healthier and more energized. They no longer have to spend long hours fetching water, allowing them to focus on their studies and participate in school activities. School attendance has also improved significantly.  The benefits of clean water extended far beyond the classrooms at the school, creating a brighter future for the entire community. Families in the community no longer worry about the health risks associated with contaminated water.  With clean water readily available, families are spending less time fetching water and more time together. They can focus on work and community activities, fostering stronger bonds among neighbours.”

‘‘We want to take this opportunity to thank Gareth, Marie, Scarlet and Alfie for their generosity. We have clean and safe water because of your love for us. We can never thank you enough. May the almighty God bless you abundantly.’’

Walusimbi Joseph, Community Member.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
