“Bakhita Albino is 18 years old and married with a daughter. Bakhita came from Limbe Lainya County following her husband’s deployment to Limuro South Sudan People’s Defence Force. Bakhita does farm works to support her family because her husband is a soldier, and most of the family responsibilities are imposed on her. On her arrival at Astart Limuro, it was so challenging for her to walk the long distance to fetch water every morning before doing any farm activity. Where water is fetched is not safe for women to go, but due to the basic need for water, she has to sacrifice and take the risk of going through the bush to find water and moreover, it’s not a clean source of water. Bakhita’s face is full of smile because of a clean and nearby source of water which will be preventing her from walking a far distance through thin paths covered by grasses. Bakhita is thanking the supporters for the excellent service extension to the communities in Yei River State, particularly Kupera County which is recently restored from war. She also added said to let the restoration of the water continue to reach other counties in Yei River State because women are the most vulnerable people when it comes to fetching water from the unclean and far water source.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
