Yachema Village, Mzimba District, Malawi

“It was a happy day in the village of Yachema as we successfully installed a pump. The villagers were delighted to have a pump for the first time in their village. Previously, they were at risk of cholera during the rainy season due to drinking water from open wells. Now, they are relieved that they will no longer suffer from such diseases, as they have access to safe water. Most of the villagers are small-scale farmers who grow maize and soya beans for food. The primary school is far from the village, resulting in many children not attending school, and there is no preschool in the area.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
