Perekawanga, Nkhata-Bay, Malawi

“This is our first time to install pumps in the area. Water situation in the village was very pathetic. They were getting water for cooking and drinking from a river full of wastes, even if you are thirsty in the village you couldn’t have desired to drink water because even the colour of water could tell that the water was not good. No good roads leads to bad transportation. The village has bush forest and people grow a lot of Cassava while some are fishermen. They travel long distances to find health facilities if they are sick. The area is very big but previously there was only 1 borehole at the Primary school some 4 km away from the village.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
