Mpoola, Mzimba, Malawi

“Mpoola village in Embangweni is one of the places where peoples’ lives have been changed tremendously. Open wells are all over the village but are not protected. When they heard of Wells for Zoё through Mr Smith Chunga, they didn’t hesitate but to request for a pump to be installed in their village. They are happy now that their request has been quickly responded to. The village has a lot of people who will be using the pump. Most of them are poor but are hard working. They are willing to work with anyone interested to change their lives. There are no trees in the village, women walk long distances to find firewood. They were very happy upon hearing about the programme Wells for Zoё is doing, giving free seeds to the people to plant in all bare areas. And more of them want to have woodlots.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
