“My name is Achol Chol Deng, and I am a mother of five children—two boys and three girls. I have sent one girl and one boy to school, but the rest of my children are not attending school due to the limited resources my husband and I have. We are both farmers. This place, called Makol Kuol, is only for cultivation; there is no market here to sell or trade the little we have. Two days ago, our well broke down, which completely disrupted our lives, activities, and everything that requires water. Without clean water, people in our village went hungry because there was no safe water to cook food. They also became thirsty, forced to drink from the pond, which caused throat problems for many. Bathing in pond water led to skin itching and body rashes every day. Today, we are overjoyed because the team repaired our well. Now we can drink clean water. No one has to travel far to search for unsafe water anymore. We will no longer use pond water for drinking, cooking, bathing, or washing, as our well now provides us with good water. We hope that with this clean water, we won’t suffer from diseases anymore. We are tired of the hardships caused by unsafe water at home. We are truly grateful to the team for their hard work in repairing the well, which has rescued us from the critical situation we were in just a few days ago when our well was not functioning.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
