“My name is Lino Mathiang Atem; I am 55 years old and married to three wives with 13 children; we all reside in Mabior Amorkuin village as we continue farming. As an elder of Mabior Amorkuin village, I was tasked in 2022 to manage the borehole and protect it from arising issues that will occur. As time went on, the well developed slowly flowing water when pumped. It continued with insufficient flow of water from October 2022 up to May 2023 when I called the Panachier team of WESI mechanics to come and find out the problem of the Mabior Amorkuin borehole; they came and disassembled the well and discovered that three Gi-pipes were leaking holes that couldn’t be fixed but recommended to be replaced with new Gi-pipes. The community agreed upon the idea of changing the damaged pipes, and they, first of all, suggested that the damaged ones be replaced with their reserved pipes instead of paying for other pipes; the involved parties agreed, and community Gi-pipes were installed and fixing improved the condition of Mabior Amorkuin water source and many households who left it for Machar well as an alternative source of plenty water returned happily because they were affected by long distant walk. Labor fee for mechanics was paid as they departed for their team headquarters.”
This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
