Lalchandpur, West Bengal

‘I am Uma Devi Chettri, wife of Jeet Bahadur Chettri. I live at Lalchandpur forest boundary. When we use dug-well water for drink, we faced different kinds of stomach troubles. In the rainy season we cannot use dug-well water because unclean water and cow dung enters into the dug-well from the outside. Which is not safe for health. We then boil the water and use drinking purpose. Safe drinking water is a very big crisis in our remote areas. We had no another source to collect clean water from outside as drinking purpose. Now we are very happy for getting this deep tube well water. It will help us to our health to reduce our stomach trouble and other skin related disease. We are using this tube-well water and we expect our health to improve.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
