Kuloro Village, Kombo East District, The Gambia

“Kuloro is a community located about 2 km east of Mandinaba along The Trans-Gambia South Bank Road. It has a population of about 200 people. The community boasts of its multi ethnic cohesion and this has made its settlement enlarged over the past years especially with the migration of Guineans from Conakry. It is among the few communities that has a woman as village head. The community is large and this has led to water scarcity within the community, which as a result made some parts of the community searching on nearby villages for water. It is a traditionally subsistence farming community growing Rice and groundnut while women engage in collecting wild fruits from the forest for sales at the Brikama Market.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
