‘Currently, 15% of Kenyans do not have access to clean water so they rely on sources that are possibly contaminated, including ponds, shallow wells and rivers. These challenges are significantly more prominent in rural areas that are too remote to connect to piped water infrastructure. Comparatively, it costs on average $4.46 per month to access water in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, and an average of $38 a month in rural areas, which is not feasible for most communities. In order for rural communities to thrive, projects like these are vital. Access to clean water close to home cuts out the long journeys women and children were making to often contaminated sources and allows them to pursue work or education if they choose.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
