Kanyogoga Village, Mpigi District, Uganda

‘Community members in this community have been walking for more than 5 kilometers every day to fetch water from the nearby water source. “Diarrhea cases were very common in my family, especially among my children. They often missed school and this affected their school performance,” says Damalie.

Today, she hardly walks a kilometer before she collects clean and safe drinking water for her family. This frees up her time so she can spend it with her family.

With more access to safe and clean water, Damalie’s family is healthy and safe. “I have time to concentrate on my job and I now have more time to work in my garden. I no longer spend a lot of my time going to fetch water,” she says.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
