Jambukesavapuram ST Village East (SS Puram), Tamil Nadu, India

“There is a common tap for all the houses in our village and we have to stand in long queue and have to wait for the water line to be opened only two days per week for two hours per day. Most of the time we used to get only few pots within the time limit for additional water needs we have to go to the ponds and open wells and to pull the water. Often this water is contaminated and not safe for drinking so we are only able to use this for washing. It is not good for cooking so it was a great trouble for us and we had been longing for a water source. When we heard that our village was selected for the new water facility we were very happy. Especially our girl children because they were relieved from the heavy burden of bringing the water on their forehead. The girl children are able to spend more time on their lessons and we thank you very much for the support.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
