Hai Mission ECS, Yei River State, South Sudan

Victoria Gune is a 25 year old mother of two who is expecting the birth of her third child. When the technicians arrived to open the well after the concrete flat form dried, Victoria was
resting under the shade of a mango tree by the well. She shared with the team that she had just traveled 20 miles on the back of a bike from her community of Undukori to reside at Mission ECS temporarily. Because she is expecting to go into labor at any time, she needed to take up residence close to a hospital. Victoria, exhausted from her travels, is so grateful to have nearby access to clean water. She does not have the ability at this point to travel long distances to fetch water and resorting dirty water would be a threat to her health and the health of her unborn child. A restored well brings health and hope to the community and visitors to the community like Vicotria.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
