Dimu ii Primary School, Yei River State, South Sudan

Doruka Joan is 45-years-old residing in Dimu ii Mukaya county. She has seven children but the children went to exile as refugees in Uganda. She is a farmer, growing food crops to earn living and raise an income. Doruka was delighted to introduce the team of Water is Basic to the Honorable female County Commissioner. She said thanks for the support because there is no organization that sacrificed to come up to Mukaya to deliver service just like Water is Basic. This means the supporters of Water is Basic are determined to providing clean water to everybody in the county through the restoration of community water wells. “Please do accept my sincere heartfelt thanks for your special gift of clean water.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
