Deng Rul Village, North Bahr-al-Ghazal, South Sudan

“My name is Monica Nyanut Deng.  I am 60 years old, and I am married, having six children. Among them, 5 are boys and 1 is a girl. I am happy today because our well is being repaired after a period of 5 months. Since it broke, we have experienced many challenges in getting clean water. The only option to get clean water was to go to War Aheer market, which is a distance of 25 minutes. And some community members who drink from water ponds usually get sick due to water-borne diseases. To make matters worse, health centers are very far away, and taking a sick person to the hospital is challenging. There is no transport as well and people only rely on commercial motorbikes called boda-boda. The majority of schoolchildren did not go to school because they get water both in school and in the house. This made the school almost collapse. I am, therefore, very happy today to see our well fixed and functional again, providing us with clean water. Now, it is our turn to take good care of the well, and we, particularly as women, will do We thank the technicians who have repaired the well and the organization for the support they have given us through the provision of clean water. May God bless you more to do more to many people. “

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
