Chimusewezo Banda Village, Mzimba District, Malawi

“It was a happy day for the people of Chimusewezo Village when they received a water pump for the first time. Previously, both people and animals relied on the same water source, but now the community is delighted to have access to clean and safe water from the newly installed pump.

Most of the villagers are poor, and many depend on farming for their livelihoods. This year, they are hoping for a good harvest, having planted mainly maize, groundnuts and tobacco. The road network is very poor, making travel difficult, and many children drop out of school because the nearest schools are located far from the village.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
