Burock Village, Foni Kansala District, The Gambia

“This community is located about 2 km north east of Kamfenda via the Trans-Gambia South Bank Road. The community is made up of the Jola tribe who survive primarily by way of subsistence farming in groundnuts, millet, corn and some engage in local fishing tilapia along the banks of the river Gambia. The remote village has only one water source serving the entire village and as a result of the high pressure it keeps breaking down due to poor standard parts and repair. This makes the villagers to use open wells which causes sickness for them.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
