DROP4DROP have partnered with our in-country partner to provide clean water to people in Warrap State. Becoming a state in 2011, Warrap is made up of six counties with a population of over 940,000 people. In South Sudan, only 10% of the population have access to safely managed and basic sanitation services (WHO/UNICEF). Drinking dirty and contaminated water leads to water borne diseases such as cholera and other diarrhoea diseases, a leading cause of death among children in South Sudan. The lack of access to clean water is mostly caused by constant conflict and civil war. During the war, the nation’s water systems were deserted and demolished and the 2011 East African drought and low rainfall exacerbated the water crisis. DROP4DROP and our in-country partner are working tirelessly to reach as many rural communities as we can and provide a sustainable source of clean water.
This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
