Anei Mawien Village, Warap, South Sudan

“My name is Nyakiir Chimiir Deng. I am a 38-year-old mother blessed with seven children, six of whom are girls, and one is a boy. I live at my residence in Lietnhom West, where I used to access clean water at Anei Mawien Borehole. However, the borehole stopped providing water two days ago when I was in Wau. I heard about the ongoing hardship being faced here by our community due to the lack of clean water. They were accessing clean water from far neighboring wells where they were mistreated and termed beggars. I rushed to Apuk Lith Park and came to Lietnhom purposely to rescue the situation. Upon my arrival at my home village, I informed the WESI Mechanics about the Anei Mawien borehole’s issue. They found that the well needs a new Gi-pipe, rod, and cylinder to work well again. The members of the water committee and I mobilized the community to contribute fees where we raised 40,000 South Sudanese pounds for spare parts and 12,000 South Sudanese pounds as repair fees which amounted to 52,000 South Sudanese. The technicians fixed the well and received spare parts and labor fees, 52,000 South Sudanese pounds. The beneficiaries of Anei Mawien well are happy to resume drinking clean water at Anei Mawien as usual. The clean water is now flowing more adequately than ever before. This shows that the current repair of the Anei Mawien borehole will last longer to serve the clean drinking water needs in my community.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
