Jekemu Village, Kasungu District, Malawi

“Many villagers in Jekemu, in the Kamphulu area, cheerfully welcomed us as we arrived to install a pump in their village for the first time. The atmosphere was filled with joy, with women dancing to show their appreciation. For years, they had longed to have a pump but didn’t know where to turn for help. They are incredibly grateful to the team for responding quickly when approached for water assistance. The community faces significant challenges, as many live in poverty and lack basic necessities. There are no markets to sell their crops after harvest, and access to healthcare is limited due to the absence of health facilities in the area.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
