“My name is Makuei Lual Chieny from Tiit Ajuot. I am 45 years old. Only four of my children are in school, and the other four are not just because I cannot pay school fees for all of them. Today, I am so happy to see our well repaired. The well broke in June this year, which is exactly 21 days today. Since it got broken, we were left without clean drinking water, and the community had to search for clean drinking water in nearby communities called Alueth. Some went to Buokbet, while others used to go to Mabok depending on the distance to every household. The distance covered to villages is from 45 – 60 minutes. People from these villages always do not wish to welcome us to get water from their wells. They quarrel with us at the pump, thinking that we came to spoil their pump. Sometimes, they collected money from us and overcharged us more than their members paid. Because of that, our community members stopped going there again to get water but instead decided to get water from nearby ponds, which are not clean. So, people got sick and frequently used to visit clinics for treatment. Today is my moment of happiness that our well is functioning again and providing us with clean drinking water. Thanks to the technicians who repaired this, and many thanks to WESI for helping us to fix our well again. May God bless you all.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
