Wunagep Village, Warap, South Sudan

“My name is Deng Mawien Dhal. I am 39 years old and live in Wunagep village in Panthou Payam. I am married and have five children, who are now all in school. At this moment, I am so happy to see our well being fixed today, on the 11th of May, 2023, by the WESI organisation. Our well has been broken for over a year, but no one repaired it for us. Since last year, we have suffered a lot due to a lack of clean drinking water. Because there was no other water source with clean water, we had to get water from the nearby pond, which was very dirty. The water from the pond made us fall sick, and many of us began to visit the health center regularly. Our animals, like cows, goats, sheep, etc., could not get water to drink, and some died because of lack of water. We had to travel from Wunagep to Panthou market, where there is a hand pump, which could take us 40 minutes to reach. This made life difficult for us since our well for the last year. But today, I am so happy that this situation is reversed because our well is functioning again and will provide us with clean drinking water like before. Therefore, on behalf of the Wunagep community, I thank God Almighty for the opportunity and the WESI organization for supporting us in getting our well fixed again so that we have clean drinking water here in our village. May God bless WESI and those working with them.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
