‘My name is Maria Atak Ngong. I am married to my lovely husband, and Almighty Father blessed us with 4 kids where two are boys, and 2 others are girls. I was doing a retail business of buying and selling basic commodities to get a profit for my living. However, I am very delighted to have been trained by WESI as well mechanic, which has opened a new chapter in my life. It was yesterday at noon time when I received a call from Police officer at Panliet Police Station that Panliet Police Well had stopped working. I responded positively and told him to be aware the water management committee about my coming tomorrow to repair the well so that they can prepare themselves. I communicated the issue to my co-worker, and we came to Panliet Police well in the morning with all the required tools for the repair, the water management committee and police officer warmly welcomed us to the site. They explained how the well stopped working and how they suffered looking for clean water since yesterday and give us green light to repair the well. I have finally repaired the well with my teammate now and received cash of 12000 SSP (equivalent to 20 USD) as repair fees. Hence, the collection for spare part fees has been closely timed with one week to clear the outstanding fees.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
