Zakeyo, Mzimba, Malawi

The people of Zakeyo faced many issues before the installation of their new water pump. According to conversations made with the women in the area, they could walk to a bore-hole 1km away to get water, however, were often denied access to it. The people in the village are now very happy because they have their own pump and do not have to collect water from an unreliable source.

As well as the pump itself, people in the community were supplied seeds and irrigation pumps to help to plant trees and restore their local ecosystem.DROP4DROP’s mission in Malawi is not only to provide local communities with specialised water wells and pumps that suit their situation but to give them the tools and knowledge they need to maintain and use the equipment for themselves.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
