Placepalayam Village, Tamil Nadu, India

“We had been using the open pond to get the water for the drinking and domestic purpose. Our women and adolescent girls used to walk and bring the water over their head and it was a great suffering for them. The waste of time and also physical strain in getting the water over the head was an unsolved problem for several years. When we had realised the new water project in our village we had felt great joy and happiness and are now very comfortable and our women are very happy and they are getting the required water for all purposes. We have great hopes that our people shall become healthier and also concentrate in other development works. Due to water inadequacy our women were not able to go for daily work in the fields and the income was also great challenge. Now they shall freely attend their work and and get the wages and manage the family without difficulty.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
