Nyangdit Community, Warap, South Sudan

“My name is Marko Madut Dhal from Nyangdit Boma of Toch East Payam in Gogrial East County, Warrap State. I am a 43-year-old father who married two wives, and we have seven children. Four children are enrolled at school, and three others have not yet joined because they are still young. Two days ago, this borehole stopped bringing water for an unknown reason. It took us critical time to go and access water at the neighborhood water source, that’s 25 minutes away from here and is a little bit near but too congested. Whoever gets water after an hour is the luckiest since the maximum hours spent waiting and queuing to get water was 4 to 5 hours. I searched for mechanics and found them at Aliny, busy with the repair of the Aliny borehole. They promised to come today, which is proven as they have arrived for the task of Nyangdit borehole. As they disassembled the borehole, they discovered the issues of damaged pipes and the cylinder. However, the Nyangdit community cannot pay for the new spare parts because of unaffordability & vulnerability. Our cultivated crops were destroyed by heavy rains in 2022, making us vulnerable to every situation. We convinced mechanics to fix our old parts and re-installed them. The repair has been successful, and clean drinking water that benefits the population of 360 people resumes its availability at the Nyangdit borehole. I lastly clear the labor fee for the mechanics in which they were pleased, and beneficiaries joyfully relish Nyangdit water source comfortably with livestock.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
