Mandina Village, Kiang Central District, The Gambia

“The village’s one hand pump was faulty and could not produce water for the community. This project has now made clean water accessible to the villagers. Tremendous work was done on this project which saw the strong support and participation of the community. The well was re-dug and new concrete culverts made as well as new parts for the hand pump. Water trough has also been provided for domestic livestock to drink. This will help the community to raise livestock for sustainable livelihood and it will also help stop water wastage. Hand washing station was also installed for the community to exercise regular hand washing and keep the community Covid-19 free. Aja Ndey Bajo, head of the community’s women expressed her sincere joy and gratitude to drop4drop for this wonderful project. For so long we have suffered seeking for clean drinking water. Thanks to this project we now have clean drinking water, she said. We are over overjoyed.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
