Malual Aher Borehole, Warap State, South Sudan

“My name is Nyadeng Yel, and I am 19 years old. I am a student at Hope Secondary School, currently in Senior One. I am very grateful to my parents, my father and mother, who sent me to school and have been taking care of me since I started my education from 2016 to 2024. I haven’t missed a single year of school, thanks to the dedication and support of my parents. I am not married, and I hope to marry someone educated to honor the sacrifices my parents made in educating me. This well is called the Malual Aheer Borehole, and it is shared by three groups. All three groups suffered when this well broke down. As you see me now, I am absent from school because there is no water at home for my mother, the children, and me. I don’t even have water for bathing. There is another well, the Linda Borehole, near this one, but it is a school well and very congested because Linda is the most popular primary school in Lietnhom. It is difficult to get water from there at all. Some people living near the swamp are now taking swamp water because of the heavy rains this year, but they are not healthy, as I speak to you now. Today, we are so happy that our well has been repaired. We will no longer go thirsty. There will be no more searching for water, and clean water will always be available here. We will no longer have to drink unsafe water again.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
