Madhol Modern Secondary School, North Bahr-al-Ghazal Region, South Sudan

“My name is Bakhita Ateny Waach. I am 21 years old. I am at student from Madhol Modern Secondary School. I am in Senior one. I am so happy today for the coming of donor teams to come and repair our borehole with coordinates (9.029941 and 27.705426).
It first got broken in April this year and was repaired and again broke in May has never been repaired until today. During those days when the well was not functioning, we have been going to the Former Commissioner’s home to get water from his water yard. But the house is far from the school taking more than 15 minutes. Most of the girls usually go to collect water from that house and as a result missed some lessons each day leading to poor academic performance in the exams. Lack of water also in our school made the school administration stopped school meals. Furthermore, we students do not stay in the school until noon time because of lack of water in the school. School meals got suspended or stopped due to lack of water in the school. So, I am very happy today because they have come back again to repair our well. Right now, we shall never miss our lessons again. Thank you for wonderful support and may the blessings of God be with you to continue helping our community.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
