Kottakadu Village, Tamil Nadu, India

“I am Hemavathi of Kottakadu Village Immensely pleased to thank RCLWA, DROP4DROP, U.K. and LIFE WATER AND MALCOLM THORPE, AMBASSADOR, DROP4DROP, for Sponsoring a deep Borewell fitted with an Electrical Motor and a 2000 Liters Overhead Tank to our Kottakadu Village. There is a common tap for all the houses in our village and we have to stand in long queue and have to wait for the water line to be opened only two days in a week. The water used to be available in the tap and for two hours, most of the time we used to get only few pots within the time limit for additional water needs we have to go to the ponds and open wells and to pull the water and most of the time these waters are contaminated and not safe for drinking and thus even if the water is brought to our home we have use them only for washing vessels and it is not good for cooking so it was a great trouble for us and we had been longing for water sources and it only remained as dream we never thought that they would select our village and when we heard that our village is selected for the new water facility we had become very happy. Especially our girl children because they were relieved from the heavy burden of bringing the water on their forehead the girl children are able to spend more time on their lessons and we thank you very much for the support. All you need is love. Thank you.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
