Kisubi Village 2, Mpigi District, Uganda

“Betty considers it a miracle that she no longer has to walk more than 4 km in search of water. She is overjoyed as she narrates how the constructed water source has abled the entire community to have access to clean safe water.”

“Before this water source was constructed in our village, life was very difficult, especially for mothers like me with three children to take care of. We would wake up early in the morning and endure the long queue at the water point in order to get water for drinking and cooking.” The long walk in search for clean water had a grave impact on households. Children’s education was disrupted as they needed to help their parents fetch water and firewood. The lack of clean water also affected overall hygiene and sanitation of the community. Our children are now attending school since they do not have to walk long distances to collect water. Our sanitation has tremendously improved because we now have enough water to observe hygiene practices. Water-related diseases have also significantly declined.”

Betty, Community Member

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
