Gong Nyuon Village, Warrap State, South Sudan

‘We’re ready to maintain the well for its better and we’ll be able to get safe drinking water. Also, we’re confidentially going to provide a guard for the well to keep it safe. Our collective responsibilities will ensure routine follow-ups of water quality and promotion of hygiene and sanitation on the handpump. The recent source used by the people of Gong Nyuon Village was actually risky as it was a dangerous distance away from the village and contained water with contaminants. On my visit to that communal water source, I was even scared of snake bites and attacks from wild animals including lions and tigers. Also its water is unclean for humans and animals because it has rotten grass, leaves of trees and some defecation surrounding it. We have felt nothing but happiness since our well is now giving us clean water again. We therefore thank you for the help to our people.’

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
