Compass Group’s 450th Well: Buwere A Village, Mpigi District, Uganda

“For many years, our village woke up before sunrise for one reason to search for clean water. The nearest source of clean water was far away. Mothers and children walked long distances under the hot sun, carrying heavy jerrycans. The water they collected was often dirty. Sometimes it looked brown. Sometimes it smelt bad. But it was the only water we had. Because of this, many people became sick. Children missed school. Parents missed work. Hospital visits became normal. Clean water felt like a dream. Every day, we hoped for change. Then one day, that change came. Because of the generosity of Compass One, our community now has access to safe and clean water. This project is going to reduce illness, save time, and create new opportunities for our children and families. Thank you Life Water, Drop4Drop and Compass one for investing in our future.”

Salongo Martin, Community member.

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
