Akin Community, Warrap State, South Sudan

“My name is Amiir Agany Wol from Akin village of Toch East Payam, Maliai headquarter in Gogrial East County. I am a 22 year old woman who married my lovely husband in August 2022. Akin borehole with GPS coordinates 8.407828 and 28.484659 stopped supplying clean drinking water to the community and livestock. We, therefore, sat down as a team to make a contribution in advance before we called for mechanics to come and repair this well. They responded positively and came to diagnose and seek a solution for the well. They realized the cylinder was loosely tied and couldn’t hold water for a while. Additionally, one of the pipes had a big hole which complicated the smooth running of water. With these two problems discovered in Akin well, the cylinder was tied very well, and the pipe was replaced with another old pipe reserved two years ago. The fixing was excellently done, and the usual provision of clean drinking water by the Akin water source was resumed by the Akin community, with 25 households sharing the water point.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
